NEC has announced a new 23-inch PC monitor called EX231Wp with a PVA panel and edge-LED backlighting. It is also comes in a rather slim design and good overall specs. NEC’s “Office Cool” monitor series is targeted at offices and home offices. The manufacturer is now expanding its range of Office Cool displays with a new 23-inch model called EX231Wp. It has a VA panel like the BenQ EW2430 that we just reviewed, which should help raise the image quality significantly compared to its predecessor, the EX231W, which used a TN panel.
More specifically, the EX231Wp is equipped with a cPVA panel with Edge LED backlighting. This type of backlighting technology lets NEC reduce the monitor’s power consumption to just 27 Watts under normal use. A light sensor adjusts the brightness automatically according to the ambient lighting conditions. It also has a motion sensor that checks whether someone is sitting in front of the screen, and if not, the monitor goes into sleep mode.
NEC has put some effort into designing an elegant monitor lineup in its Office Cool series, and without a doubt the EX231Wp raises the bar considerably when it comes to image quality. The NEC MultiSync EX231Wp will be available in July 2011 for about $319, according to FlatPanelsHD.
