DisplayLink’s technology for Linux that lets you connect multiple displays to your PC via the USB interface is gaining momentum. Unfortunately it’s too late for the latest changes to make it to Linux kernel 2.6.36, but it’s definitely a feature that Linux Users can look forward to. In Linux 2.6.37, the Display Link support for power management features Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) via the X protocol and will also support the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID).
If you have a less powerful graphics card in your computer but an awesome monitor, the combination will become a lot more useful. Support for Display Link has been in the Linux kernel since about a year and now it appears that the technology is about to revive. Version 2.6.37 of the Linux kernel is likely due early next year.
