Someone said that comparing the PA271W against many of its rivals is like comparing a stealth bomber to a hot air balloon. The NEC Multisync PA271W is big, very professional-looking and somewhat clumsy in its appearance, but makes up for the lack of good looks on the outside with a high-end 2560 x 1440 pixel IPS panel on the inside.

This monitor is firmly placed in the high-end class, with a price tag that matches the impressive list of specifications. As you’d expect, it comes with a full set of options for adjusting it to your workplace, and it’s overall design is aimed at usability first and foremost. All of the buttons that provide access to OSD adjustments are located in front (where individual colors can be adjusted), and along the side you will find plenty of connectivity options.

There are two DVI ports, one DisplayPort, one S-Video port and four USB ports. The PA271W has a relatively high response time at 7 ms, but that should still suffice for movies and gaming if that is your intention with this monitor (somewhat unlikely). As for the contrast ratio, NEC doesn’t bother to quote an ultra-high dynaic ratio but the static 1,000:1, which is excellent.

Reviews

If you need accurate and consistent colour, the NEC MultiSync PA271W has lots of tools to ensure just that.

PC Advisor UK

The biggest feature is the integrated KVM switch, which NEC dubs DisplaySync Pro. For graphics professionals who do a lot of work with CAD design, photo editing, or other types of projects that don’t fall under the “everyday use” umbrella, this alone might justify the added cost.

HotHardware

For serious pros that need some of the best color accuracy on the market as well as plenty of screen real estate to work with, the NEC PA271W is an excellent choice. Even though it will take a good chunk of change to enjoy the benefits of this monitor at $1399, the color accuracy and display options will no doubt make any editor happy they made the purchase.
